LEFT BEHIND: Day Of Judgment

A fanfiction short story by Vic George

As Chloe slept on the last night that she would be living, she had a dream. She saw the earth, as it must have looked after every mountain had been leveled and every island disappeared upon Christ's return, sitting in outer space, and coming towards it was a white wall of fire that was devouring everything in the universe, including the sun, the moon, stars, and planets. This must be the fulfillment of what Peter said in his second epistle: "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up."
This white wall of fire, having engulfed the heavens with a loud noise, finally reached earth with such incredible speed and consumed everything on it. The people who were on this earth cringed in fear and screamed as they too were engulfed in flame, their bodies becoming like firewood. Yet through what seemed like hours of being in flames, a great voice spoke, calling people out of their graves to stand before Him who sits on the throne for judgment.
Soon the flames disappeared, and the people found themselves relatively intact, save for the fact that they were now naked and among untold millions of people who had joined them, now also naked. Where they were standing now seemed like a room that was entirely white with nothing in it, but then the whiteness was replaced by a blackness that was illuminated by a great white throne and He who sat upon it. The people who passed through the flame and those that now joined them were standing on a white cloud, with a single path that led to the throne of God, and near the throne were the angels and saints of God, and Jesus, His only begotten Son, sitting at His Father's right hand.
Chloe knew that this must be the day of judgment, the last resurrection, when all the people of the earth, except those who had part of the first resurrection, would rise from the dead to be judged for their works, to give acknowledgment to God that Jesus Christ is Lord, and for most of them, to be cast into the Lake of Fire, which she saw a short path to the Lord's left led to. Already on that path were two dark figures, whom Chloe surmised must be the personifications of Death and Hell that Scriptures said were to be cast into the Lake of Fire.
A voice from the throne of God called the people forward to the throne, from the first people on earth to the last. They all came together in one long line and approached the throne, most of them fearfully and others in wonderment, to be judged by the saints, who had books that recorded every single deed that those who were judged did. They also had access to the Book of Life, the great book that also opened to show who was in it and who wasn't.
As the people were processed, Chloe saw among the first to be judged Cain, the son of Adam and Eve, who had killed his brother for offering a sacrifice that pleased the Lord; the daughters of men that gave themselves in marriage to those who were called "the sons of God" in Genesis to produce Nephilim, "the fallen ones"; the people who perished in the flood whose thoughts were continually evil and committed great violence; Nimrod, the so-called "mighty one before the Lord" who moved people in Babel to build a tower that would reach unto heaven; the men of Sodom and Gomorrah, who had given themselves over to sexual perversion and almost threatened Lot's life in order to have their way with the visiting angels; Ishmael, the first child of Abraham who was born of Hagar, his maidservant; Esau, the first of the twin sons of Isaac born from Rebekah, who sold his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of stew; the Pharoah who was killed in the flood when Moses led God's people out of Egypt. She saw people of all walks of life, all nationalities, all ages, of every time period from the beginning of time onward. As it got closer to the present, Chloe was shocked to see people she read about in history books -- leaders, philosophers, inventors, artists, authors -- find themselves among the condemned. There were even those that claimed to be Christian, whether they be pastors or members of the congregation, famous or not, that found themselves not written in the Book of Life.
Of those people, they came to the Lord to protest their case, weeping, angry, and shocked, saying to Him in various ways, "Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?" And to each of them, Jesus said sadly to them, "I never knew you. Depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness." And they were all dragged away by the angels.
The line of people being processed now reached those who have died when the Rapture took place, and Chloe was sad to see some of her friends from high-school and college were now among those who would face the second death. Then there were people her father worked with at Pan-Continental, and some of the people that Buck became friends with and worked with at Global Weekly. She saw Jonathan Stonagal and Joshua Todd-Cothran, the two men who were betrayed and murdered by Carpathia at the meeting Buck attended just shortly after being saved. She saw Verna Zee, and her heart broke when she realized she was among those who didn't accept Christ during the early part of the Tribulation, when the sixth Seal Judgment brought forth "the wrath of the Lamb". Then she saw more and more people who had died during the course of the Tribulation without Christ, and those who had accepted the "mark of the beast" and worshipped Carpathia's image who had died.
Among that group, Chloe saw Jock Ashmore, the GC officer who taunted her by eating his breakfast in front of her. With the look on his face now of finding out who's really God, she fought back the urge to gloat in his face about her getting to dine forever with the King of kings and he looking on from the outside, as if that were possible. He paid his due of confessing that Jesus Christ is Lord, as did all the condemned, before he too was sent walking the short path that led to everlasting punishment. She also saw Florence, Nigel, Jess, and the fake custodian; then she saw all the soldiers of Carpathia's Unity Army; then the ten sub-potentates and some of their replacements; then Peter Mathews of Enigma Babylon; then Viv Ivins; and then afterward those who were born and lived during the Millennium who sinned against the Lord and died a hundred years old; and then those whom Satan had gathered to surround God's beloved city when the Millennium was over.
The judgment seemed to last forever, and then suddenly it was all over. And when it did, everything changed. There was now a new earth and a new sky above it, and coming down from heaven, a glittering cube of a city that seemed like it was almost half the size of the United States. This was the New Jerusalem that she read about in Scripture, where God's people will dwell with the Lord Jesus Christ and God the Father. She then heard a voice from heaven say, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."
Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new."
One of the 12 pearly gates, named Judah, opened, and there Chloe saw streets that were paved with gold, that looked like transparent glass, and from the center of the city where God's throne was, a crystal-clear river flowed from it, and in the middle of its street, on either side of the river, was the tree of life that bore twelve different kinds of fruit each month, and had leaves that were for the healing of the nations. Everything inside the city was illuminated by the Lord God, as Scripture had foretold.
Then He said again, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."
Then the Spirit said to her, "Come", and all those who were the Bride said to her, "Come". And as she entered into the brightness that awaited her inside the city, her dream ended with the sound of helicopter blades. She was back in her cell, facing certain death and wondering if the Tribulation Force had managed to find a way to rescue her.
